Let's
Have A Party!!
So
what does a NeighborHope party look like? Let's take a look
at how easy and how much fun it is to love your neighbors - as much fun
as a party!
The first, and perhaps most important step is to pray and ask God for
his direction and peace. If you are married, it is important that you and
your family are united in this decision. This decision needs to be made
well in advance of the party, so that there is plenty of time to order the training
resources and set a date early before your neighbors have filled their calendar.
Even before you have your training materials, ask God if His purpose for
this gathering is for you and your neighbors to get acquainted in a fun, non-threatening
way, or if your relationship with your neighbors is close enough for the
party to be an evangelistic outreach.
Next decide how many neighbors you want to invite. You can make your own
invitations or use pre-packaged invitations. Then you and your spouse
can enjoy delivering your invitations. If you have a good relationship
with another Christian couple, this is a great opportunity to invite them to help
you with some of the details, such as a theme, games, get-to-know you activities, and scripture ideas.
The evening of your party has arrived. The excitement and fun begins when
the doorbell rings! Your guests are greeted and set the food they
brought onto a table full of such delectable delights. Then they fill
out their nametags and play ice-breaker games with other guests already
at the party. Soon the room is filled with laughter as the group is playing games, singing favorite songs and
sharing party-related memories and traditions. During that time someone shares
about the true meaning of Christmas or a reading related to the season. Someone else shares how Christ personally
has made their entire life more meaningful.
You then ask your guests to think of ideas for
things the neighborhood can do together throughout the year. Someone suggests
a neighborhood directory. Another guest suggests a Fourth of July party
at their house. Yet another would love to start a women's Bible study.
The hour is getting late. It's time to bestow your guests with a NeighborHope parting
gift that will express your love for your neighbors.
Isn't
this what being a Neighbor is all about?
